DHS Says TX County Released 142 Criminally Charged Illegal Immigrants in 1 Week – Fox News Insider

During one week in February, 142 criminally charged illegal immigrants were released into the public by Travis County, Texas, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

The county, which is home to the liberal city of Austin, has been publicly called out by the Trump administration, which is trying to crack down on "sanctuary" communities that do not cooperate in enforcing federal immigration laws.

On "Varney & Co." today, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said this is a "travesty" and it's not good for the state.

Paxton pointed to troubling data from the Texas Department of Public Safety, which showsmore than 215,000 criminal aliens have been booked into local Texas jails between June 2011 and February 2017.

He noted that those aliens were charged with more than 566,000 criminal offenses, including homicide, sexual assault anddrug charges.

"I cannot think of a single upside to the taxpayers of Travis County for a sheriff to let go criminal illegals," Paxton said. "What's our upside?"

Paxton revealed that they are working on a bill in Texas that would block state funding to cities and municipalities that adopt sanctuary policies.

He said the bill has already been passed in the state Senate, and it's looking like it will make it through the House and go to Gov. Greg Abbott's desk.

"I think this works hand in glove with what the federal government's trying to do, and we're certainly supportive of it," Paxton said.
