Monday traffic stop leads to arrest of illegal alien – Hannibal.net

HANNIBAL The Hannibal Police Department reported the arrest of an illegal immigrant stemming from a traffic stop on U.S. 61 near Fair Oaks Drive.

According to the arrest report, an HPD officer conducted a traffic stop for speeding at 11:17 p.m. The officer found that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Ohio. The driver, Oday J. Elayyan, 28, was taken into custody without incident.

HPD contacted the St. Louis office of U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, who reported that Elayyan had entered the country illegally from Mexico. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued a Warrant for Arrest of Alien for Elayyan.

The 10th Judicial Circuit of Marion County on Tuesday charged Elayyan with one count of tampering with a motor vehicle with bond set at $10,000. Elayyan was housed in the Marion County Jail ahead of Department of Homeland Security agents taking custody for removal proceedings under the Immigration and Nationality Act.
