General Licenses

OFAC issues general licenses in order to authorize activities that would otherwise be prohibited with regard to Iraq. General licenses allow all USpersons to engage in the activity described in the general license without needing to apply for a specific license.

Executive Orders, Statutes, Rules and Regulations Relating to the Iraq-related Sanctions

TheIraq-related Sanctionsrepresent the implementation of multiplelegal authorities. Some of these authorities areinthe form of executive ordersissued by thePresident. Other authorities arepublic laws (statutes) passed byThe Congress. Theseauthorities are further codified by OFACinits regulations which are published the Code of Federal Regulations(CFR).Modificationsto these regulationsare posted in the Federal Register. OFAC may alsoimplementUnited Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSCRs)with regard to theIraq-related Sanctions
