The football coaching positions at Celebration and Liberty high schools were filled Friday.

Ocoee defensive coordinator Dennis Thomas is the new Celebration High football coach. Former offensive coordinator, Cory Johns from Davenport Ridge Community, accepted the Liberty job.

"He has a good pedigree. I see him as a young man who is motivated to get the job done; he has a fire in his belly," Lisby said.

Thomas, 32, played at Orlando Evans, where he was a safety, and he also played at Florida A&M.

He was a volunteer at elebration this spring. He was hired by former Storm Coach Ed Meierkort, he said, shortly before Meierkort was dismissed by former Principal Laura Rhinehart.

"This job is very interesting to me because the more I was around here, the more I liked it. I fell in love with kids, the school, the parents, the principal and the AD," he said. "It's a great situation."

Thomas plans to bring Olympia assistant coach Raul Gomez to Celebration as his offensive coordinator.

"Raul was at Olympia when they beat us for the district championship. He is definitely the one I want to run our offense," Thomas said.
