John Barnes says Liverpool FC will receive the biggest possible test against Real Madrid

John Barnes believes Real Madrid will provide the truest test of Liverpool FCs credentials when they visit Anfield this week.

The Reds welcome the reigning European champions following a disjointed, indifferent start to their own campaign, and knowing a defeat would put them in a difficult position in terms of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages.

Barnes, though, says the game is one that should be savoured, by both supporters and players.

He said: Its great that Liverpool are back in the Champions League. Thats where we belong, and these are the games you want. Id rather it be the final, or a knockout game, but its still a big one.

It will be a measure of how good Liverpool actually are. Although this season has not gone particularly well, we still have the quality to give them a few problems. Im really looking forward to it.

Barnes was speaking at the unveiling of an interactive 3D street art installation in Liverpools Williamson Square, organised by online bookmaker Titanbet.

Former Liverpool FC player John Barnes with the 3D street art in Williamson Square Liverpool ahead of the Read Madrid clash this week.

The tribute featured members of the Liverpool team that beat Real Madrid to win the 1981 European Cup, and Barnes is anticipating another momentous occasion at Anfield on Wednesday evening.

It will be sensational, he said.
