Police are investigating a peculiar assault involving a Norwalk man who was punched in the face by a stranger as the man walked to his office on Wednesday, March 12.

The man told police that he was walking toward his office on the Post Road after parking behind 1020 Post and heard a man yell at him to get his attention. He then saw this person run toward him between cars and began asking him a question, but his intention was unclear, the victim said. The victim then turned and walked away.

The attacker then jumped him and punched him in the eye, knocking him to the ground and also injuring his right hand. The victim told police the man didnt say anything as he swung. They struggled for a moment before the man then ran off and entered a black Ford pickup truck.

The attacker is described as being 6-feet tall, in his 30s, heavy set, with dark skin, possibly of Indian or Middle Eastern descent, police said. He had short black hair and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and green cargo pants. The victim told police he had never seen this man before and doesnt know of anyone who would want to hurt him.

When police arrived, the mans eye was swollen and red and his right fist was bleeding from when he fell to the ground after being punched, police said. He was taken to Stamford Hospital for treatment.

One of the victims coworkers at Merril Lynch told police that she saw a Ford truck with large chrome bars on its grill in the parking lot that morning. The investigation remains ongoing.

When asked if this incident was consistent with the details of whats been called the knockout game, police said it did not appear that was the case. This game usually involved teenagers who attempt to knock a person unconscious with a single punch. Police said since this incident happened early in the morning, and involved an attacker who was in his 30s, this was likely not an incident involving this game.
