Ontarios premier says the Liberals will co-operate with a police probe into two cancelled gas plants as they investigate a former senior staffer who they allege gave an outside tech expert access to government computers.

Media reports say an unsealed police search warrant alleges that David Livingston, former premier Dalton McGuintys chief of staff, committed breach of trust by giving the expert access to 24 computers in the premiers office.

The search warrant which includes allegations not proven in court was obtained by the Ontario Provincial Police to seize hard drives from government computers at an unnamed data storage facility in Mississauga, Ont.

It is part of the criminal investigation into the deletion of emails on two unpopular gas plants in Oakville and Mississauga that were cancelled by the governing Liberals ahead of the 2011 election.

Police launched a criminal probe last June after the Progressive Conservatives complained that gas plant emails were intentionally deleted by senior staff in McGuintys office.

Premier Kathleen Wynne says its a serious allegation and her government will continue to co-operate with police.
