It's now a five-way provincial election in Leeds-Grenville.

The Green Party of Ontario announced on Monday it has appointed Steve Bowering as its candidate here, and Harold Gabriel also joined the fray as a Libertarian candidate.

Bowering, 49, an Ottawa resident who works in information technology and runs his own electronics waste recycling business, acknowledged he may be perceived as a "parachute candidate."

The Greens believe in fielding candidates in all ridings and Bowering plans to get up to speed immediately.

"I want to be able to make sure that they have as much information as the Green Party can provide," he said.

The Greens believe in growing productivity while respecting the long-term impact on the environment, he said.

Meanwhile, Libertarian candidate Gabriel, 40, a Cardinal native and Brockville resident, comes from a diverse political family. He is the brother of Matthew Gabriel, who ran as the NDP candidate here in the 2011 federal election.

A field operations worker for Xplornet Communications, Gabriel said his party believes in less government.

He is entering the fray out of concern about the deficit.
