Mike Pence or Michael RichardMikePence(born June 7, 1959) is an American politician and attorney. As of 2016 he is the 50thGovernor of Indiana. Mike Pence was first elected to theUnited States House of Representatives in 2000. In 2016 he was chosen as Donald Trumps running mate for the Republican Party.

Pence was raised Catholic, but over the years has made a commitment to Christ and claims to be a born-again Evangelist Catholic. He said in another statement that he is a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order. Mike butted heads with the Archdiocese of Indiana over an issue and seems to be increasingly against Catholicism. When he signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act it made him very popular with hardcore conservatives and Evangelists.

Mike Pence rose rapidly to the top of the political hierarchy and has recently even been urged by fellow republicans to replace Donald Trump as the Presidential Candidate in the 2016 Election. Before Pences Vice Presidential campaign, his approval ratings as the Governor of Indiana had fallen significantly. Many had not heard of him besides when he made the headlines for signing the anti-LGBT Religious Freedom Restoration Act. He attempted to keep Syrian refugees out of Indiana, which put him at odds with the Archdiocese and many others. Despite his controversial political past, his political record seems to be overlooked due to the fact that Donald Trump is all over the news for saying controversial things.

Pence enjoys cartooning. Esquire magazine discovered a comic that he wrote 30 years ago called, Law School Daze.

He has been married to Karen Pence since 1985.

His favorite movie is The Wizard of Oz. Mikes favorite food is bacon and he is also an animal lover. He and his wife, Karen have a beagle named Maverick and two cats namedPickle and Oreo.

After losing two bids for a U.S. congressional seat in 1988 and 1990, he decided to switch gears and became a conservative radio and television talk show host from 1994 to 1999. Pence jumped back into politics after 1999 and successfully ran for Congress in 2000 and represented Indianas 2nd and 6th congressional districts in theUnited States House of Representativesfrom 2001 to 2013. From there he rose to the position ofchairmanof theHouse Republican Conferencefrom 2009 to 2011.Pence positioned himself as a big supporter of the Tea Party Movement.

Mike faced a lot of backlash in 2012 after signing theReligious Freedom Restoration Act, and also signed controversial abortionbills, including one that prohibited abortions if the reason for the procedure was the fetusrace, gender, ordisability.
