Presidential primariesll not divide APC, says Saraki

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has said that presidential primaries will not cause division in the party.

Saraki said the contestants for the partys ticket had given assurance that they would abide by the outcome of the primaries and would work for the overall interest of the party.

In an interview with journalists in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Monday, the APC chieftain said it was a mere propaganda that APC would disintegrate after its primaries.

Saraki said, This is the propaganda from the opposition. I want to assure Nigerians that the fact that we are going to have the primaries should not in any way disintegrate the party. I believe that even such primaries will help to unify the party. We saw it during the era of the Social Democratic Party. After the primaries, the SDP did not disintegrate, rather it made the party stronger.

Even in the early days of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Alex Ekwueme had primaries and the party did not disintegrate. I can open up and tell you that I have had the opportunity to sit with General Muhammadu Buhari, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku and Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso. There are assurances from them that whichever way the primary goes, they will support whoever emerges as the candidate.

When we started to merge with the legacy parties, the opposition said the party would disintegrate with the merger. After that they said that by the time we go for national convention the party would disintegrate, yet none happened.

The party will not disintegrate because we are all making sacrifices every day. It is not easy to come together to take on a government with this level of impunity. We are all doing this because we truly believe that this is the best way for Nigeria. I have utmost confidence that whoever emerges as the presidential flag bearer for APC, we will rally round the person.

Saraki, who is Chairman, Senate Committee on Ecology and Environment, said he would soon inform Nigerians whether he would contest for the 2015 presidential election or not.

He urged the citizens to rise above selfish ambitions and make necessary sacrifices that would uplift the country.

APC commends Adeboye for disowning offensive sermon

The All Progressives Congress has commended the General Overseer of the Redeem Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, for dissociating himself and the church from what the party called offensive and divisive audio Compact Disc that is being circulated by certain political Pastors.

In a statement in Lagos on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said by his action, the GO had again exhibited his characteristic exceptional leadership and shown what religion should be about, which is love, rather than hate and incendiary statements.

It expressed satisfaction that the GO specifically asked the RCCG Pastors to ignore the contents of the audio CD, especially all the references to political parties, including the APC.

The party said, The GOs statement, in his response to the APC, which had written to protest the divisive and corrosive statements contained in the audio CD, which has been smuggled into some RCCG parishes, made it clear that the RCCG is neutral and apolitical, and that it prays for all irrespective of political persuasion or creed.

We in the APC are delighted at the GOs prompt action and statement that the RCCG did not endorse divisive comments in any form or shape, that it has sons and daughters in all political parties, and that the allegations contained in the audio CD are wickedly false, unsubstantiated, ill-conceived and mischievous.

Equally satisfying is the GOs directive asking everyone in possession of the audio CDs to return them, and the directive to the Churchs Pastors to communicate such to their respective congregations immediately.

On the audio CD, allegedly produced by one Pastor Bosun Emmanuel, the party wondered why a man of God would engage in what it described as outright lies to propagate hatred, incite Christians against Muslims so brazenly, as if the adherents of both religions are not children of the same God.

It faulted the cleric for using the platform of the church to campaign for the Peoples Democratic Party while seeking to destroy the APC.

The party added, In a country where the citizenry, whether Christians or Muslims, have been shortchanged by greedy, selfish and clueless political leadership, a Pastor went on record as saying President Goodluck Jonathan has performed 100%, while at the same time demonizing and denigrating the APC as an Islamic Party without a scintilla of proof. Much as he struggled to couch his inflammatory and discordant message in flowery lies, it is clear that he was sponsored to inseminate lies to shore up the dwindling fortunes of the ruling party.

Where in the world has an Islamic Party been led by a Christian? Where in the world has the membership of an Islamic Party been populated by Christians and Muslims? Why would a Pastor whose primary purpose is to preach the Gospel (good news) now make himself available, for whatever reason, as a tool to disseminate lies and bad news?

Bill Maher - Liberals don #39;t stand up for Liberal Values with Muslims
This is exactly why Liberals are criticized by Conservatives as having no Principles, because it actually takes courage to defend your Principles when it matters, not when its simply convenient...

Liberals storm California's bedrooms

I have a slightly different take on California's recent decision to regulate college sex. Don't get me wrong, it's beyond idiotic, unworkable, even borderline Orwellian. We'll get to all that.

But I also think it's incredibly useful. You see, for years I've been railing and ranting about the ridiculous myth that liberalism is socially libertarian; that liberals are "live and let live" types simply defending themselves against judgmental conservatives, the real aggressors in the culture war.

That thinking runs counter to most everything liberals justifiably take pride in, as liberals. You can't be "agents for change," "forces for progress," or whatever the current phrase, and claim that you're not the aggressors in the culture war. Liberals have redefined a millenniums-old understanding of marriage while talking as if it were conservatives who wanted to "impose" their values on the nation.

Most libertarians are surely against racial discrimination, sexism, poor eating habits, homophobia and so on. But their proposed remedies don't look anything like a liberal's. Libertarians, for the most part, do not favor racial or gender quotas. They're against banning big sodas, campus speech codes or forcing elderly nuns to pay for birth control coverage, among other things.

Liberals, meanwhile, are quite open about their desire to use the state to impose their morality on others. Many conservatives want to do likewise, of course. The difference is that when conservatives try to do it, liberals are quick to charge "theocracy!" and decry the Orwellian horror.

Enter Gov. Jerry Brown, whose answer to the alleged "rape epidemic" on campuses was to sign the new "affirmative consent" law. It will require a verbal "yes" at every stage of amorous activity on college campuses.

The incredible overreach of the law has been discussed at great length. The Times editorial board expressed its own sensible misgivings in an editorial before Brown signed the bill into law. "It seems extremely difficult and extraordinarily intrusive to micromanage sex so closely as to tell young people what steps they must take in the privacy of their own dorm rooms."

This strikes me as extremely understated, but the sentiment is right. Some defenders of the law say it doesn't really matter because it will only have an effect when women accuse men of sexual assault. "The law has no bearing on the vast majority of sexual encounters," feminist writer Amanda Marcotte reassures us. "It only applies when a student files a sexual assault complaint."

Never mind that it will also likely change the standard of proof in such situations, making it much easier to charge and administratively convict students of rape based solely on an allegation. Don't worry about false accusations, says Think Progress' Tara Culp-Ressler, they amount to only "about 2% to 8% of cases." Tell that to people who fall into the 2% to 8%.

Other defenders insist that such concerns miss the point. Ann Friedman of New York magazine rhapsodizes about the law's positive cultural impact. It will help in "deprogramming the idea that nice girls don't admit they like sex, let alone talk about how they like it." She notes that the "law will force universities to talk to all students, female and male, about how enthusiastic consent is mandatory." And that is great because "Confirming consent leads to much hotter sex."
