How To: Password Profiling With CUPP In BackTrack 5
In this tutorial, I am going to teach you a technique called password profiling. To do this, I will show you how to use a script called CUPP to guess a user #39;s password and create a wordlist / dictionary file. How does it work? First, CUPP will ask us to answer a series of questions about a user (ie user #39;s name, birthdate, spouse, family members, etc.). Then, CUPP will make educated guesses based on our answers to generate a wordlist of possible passwords that the user uses. A couple of notes... Password profiling is very effective in brute force attacks. The more user information you provide to CUPP, the more likely it is that CUPP will guess a correct password. Social networking profiles, such as Facebook, are the richest sources of user information and can be easily exploited for this purpose. This is called level one creeper recon. Enjoy!
