The All Progressives Congress has asked the Enugu State House of Assembly to investigate how the former deputy governor, Mr. Sunday Onyebuchi, was able to hold an elected political office without resigning from the state civil service.

The APC called on the lawmakers to impeach Governor Sullivan Chime if investigation shows that he knew how a civil servant (Onyebuchi) became a deputy governor for seven years plus.

Following Onyebuchis controversial redeployment to the Enugu State Civil Service after his impeachment over allegations of gross misconduct, reports emerged that he did not formally resign from the service, and as a result, his appointment was never terminated, before he became the deputy governor.

The Chairman of the Enugu State Chapter of the APC, Dr. Ben Nwoye, on Monday told journalists that the development amounted to a fraud that must be investigated by the Enugu lawmakers if the Assembly was not a rubber stamp of the executive arm of government.

The APC chief added that the matter was enough to warrant Chimes impeachment, since he was aware that Onyebuchi never resigned from the civil service.

Nwoye described Onyebuchis tenure as deputy governor when he had not resigned from the civil service, where he held the rank of a permanent secretary before taking up political office, as a case of ghost worker.

Enugu people should be duly informed that they have been cheated, it is fraudulent it is a case of ghost worker.

We should investigate and find out whether he was being paid as a permanent secretary while he was in office as the deputy governor, he said.

The Enugu APC chairman added that Onyebuchis emergence as a deputy governor, while his appointment with the civil service was still running, was illegal as it was not in compliance with the due process.
