Buhari and the age controversy

The camp of Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd) in the All Progressives Congress on Wednesday dispelled speculations that the former military Head of State has dropped his aspiration to contest the 2015 Presidency on the grounds that he is too old.

Comments:

Nasir: What we are looking for in this country is beyond old age. What we are looking for is who is going to rescue this country from the hand of evil people who have turned Nigeria into an Automated Teller Machine. We want somebody that can re-unite this country despite the situation we are now. We want somebody that can fight corruption to a standstill. Thus, old age shouldnt matter in this circumstance. Whether Buhari is 100 years or above, as far as he believes he can rescue us from our current ugly situation, he should give the Presidency his best shot.

Osakue Aiyevbekpen: In a digital age where the average age of world leaders is 45, why do we need a former military dictator as President? How can such a man understand the intricacies of a world governed by ideas and be able to engage leaders of industries on new economic platforms, the language of which has changed? Are there no brighter and smarter young men in the All Progressives Congress who understand the nuances of the present world? Anyone promoting Buhari for his rigidity and discipline is out of touch with the flexibility imperative of democracy. Buhari is too out of fashion to be President of modern Nigeria!

The Beloved: While I do not hold forth for Buhari, I do not have problem with the age of anyone when it comes to governance provided he has something good to deliver. One of our major problems is stealing of public funds and this is happening in most of our local governments, constituencies, states and at the federal level. People stealing this fund are not really old people. So if Buhari wants to contest election, let it be.
