United Conservative Party panics progressives – The Rebel

The Wildrose Party and the Progressive Conservative party have reached an agreement in principle to merge the two conservative entities under a new banner, the United Conservative Party.

The merger deal has to be ratified by both parties by July 22, with approval from PC membership at least 50 per cent plus one and the WRP respecting their grassroots nature, by 75 per cent.

And after that, the race is on for a new leader to be chosen at an AGM on October 28.

Its an aggressive timeline with an aggressive agenda for a very good reason:

The new party needs to be ready in the event Notley pulls a Prentice and disregards Albertas fixed election law by calling an early general election.

Personally, this is the happiest and most excited Ive been about Alberta politics since Alison Redford resigned in shame and scandal.

And, so of course, Notley is going to put her fear mongering into overdrive.

To Notley, over half the province are right wing extremists. (I suppose its better than calling us sewer rats but not by much.)

As the NDP continue to lose, theyre going to act crazier and say crazier things. Its what panicked progressives do.

There is an end in sight.

But we have two more years of madness to survive.
