In the Loop: Grubers TGIF: A Rand Paul meme and an Issa invite

Presidential aspirant Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) started a #latenighttextsfromGruber meme Friday, which gives Paul and friends a new tool to poke at President Obama:

Paul got it started, but now he wants you to keep it going:

Meanwhile, as one of his final acts as chairman of the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) has called Gruber to testify next month.

In a letter sent Thursday, Issa invites Gruber to be a witness at a hearing on Dec. 9 that will focus on transparency failures related to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

As a quick refresher, Gruber is the MIT professor who was a paid consultant on health-care reform as the White House wrote the law. He (in)famously said that the stupidity of American voters helped Congress pass Obamacare.

From the outset, the health law has been the poster child for this Administrations broken transparency promises, Issa said in a statement Friday. Americans were told if they liked their plans and doctors, they could keep them. They were told the individual mandate wasnt a tax. None of these were true. Jonathan Gruber, one of ObamaCares chief architects, publicly lauded the lack of transparency that was necessary to pass the law and credited the stupidity of the American voter that allowed the Administration to mislead the public.

As our colleague Chris Cillizza wrote this week, the Gruber comment not only alludes to a premeditated deception, but suggests that the Obama administration thinks conservative America is not smart.

And for that reason, Republicans are eager to keep Gruber in the news.
