WASHINGTON - As he continues to ponder a 2016 presidential race, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul next week returns to the first-in-the-nation primary state of New Hampshire.

Doug Stafford, executive director of Paul's political action committee RANDPAC, confirmed to The Courier-Journal that the lawmaker will be in the Granite State, but said details will not be released for another day or so.

Paul will spend next Wednesday in the state, according to a brief report in the New Hampshire Journal.

The senator has been a regular visitor to New Hampshire. He was in the state in September for a GOP unity breakfast, then returned in October to campaign for Republican Senate candidate Scott Brown and others.

The most recent survey on the GOP presidential race in the key primary state, a November Bloomberg Politics/Saint Anselm New Hampshire Politics Poll, show Paul tied for the lead with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Each man had 16 percent support among likely Republican primary voters, followed by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 14 percent.

A separate match-up that included 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney in the field gave him the lead with 30 percent, followed by Paul at 11 percent and Christie at 9 percent.
