Rand Paul to make February stop in Ames

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul will attend an Iowa State University mens basketball game and visit with students during an early February trip to central Iowa, his political action committee RandPAC announced Monday.

Paul, who is seen as a potential Republican candidate for President in 2016, will be in central Iowa Feb. 6 and 7.

Paul is expected to emphasize his proposed legislation to audit the Fed, during his trip, said Steve Grubbs, chief Iowa strategist for RandPAC.

Its a full financial review of Fed activities and certain activities that have generally been shielded from the public in the past, Grubbs said.

The organization Liberty Iowa is holding rallies around the legislation that week, and Paul will participate in one of the rallies in Des Moines, Grubbs said.

On Feb. 7, Paul will attend the first half of ISUs mens basketball game against Texas Tech at Hilton Coliseum with ISU alum and supporter Steve Sukup.

Paul will watch the second half of the game with students from the Iowa State Center.

Hell watch the game with them and hell say a few words, hell have a chance to do some photos and visit about issues important to students, Grubbs said.

Whenever Paul speaks on college or university campuses, he focuses on privacy rights, an important issue to all Americans, but particularly college students, Grubbs said.

Grubbs said Paul is looking at a run for president and will decide whether to launch an official bid later this spring.
