Jack Dodd enters bid for local Republican chair – Kokomo Perspective

A former candidate for mayor of Kokomo announced his intention to seek the position of Howard County Republican Party chair.

Jack Dodd sent his letter of intent to the state GOP on Friday, making him the second local Republican to seek the party chair position once Craig Dunns term has ended. Dodds announcement comes on the heels of Marty Stouts, who announced his intentions two weeks ago.

Dodd praised the work of Dunn as part of his announcement and also said he intended to build upon that.

The party has really grown under the leadership of Mr. Dunn, said Dodd. Hes been very successful. We need to continue that success, and we need to keep growing the party. Its about getting people involved and energized. With this last presidential election, there were historic records set. We need to continue to move in that direction. I want everybody to come out and vote. I dont care how you vote, but people need to get out there and get involved. Its our community.

Part of continuing Dunns effort, according to Dodd, would be facilitating the Howard County Republican Partys growth.

Mr. Dunn and Judy Buck have done an excellent job, said Dodd. We need to reach out to the rest of the demographics. They too can become involved in the party. They too can have an active voice. They too can make a difference.

The candidate for party chairs most recent foray into local politics came in 2015 when he faced off against Martha Lake in the Republican primary for mayor of Kokomo.

Lake ultimately defeated Dodd, but he said during his campaign he saw support indicative of potential party growth.

I want to bring in more folks into the Republican party, and make it a party to include everybody, said Dodd. When I was running for mayor, the people that showed up for my fund raisers and events were people not typically in the Republican party.

Prior to his run for mayor, Dodd worked as the human resources director for the city of Kokomo under former mayor Matt McKillip and also previously served as the human resources director for the city of Yuma, Ariz. He once also worked as a mental health caseworker with Howard Community Hospital.

As it stands now, the party will elect its chairperson on March 4.
