The isle Branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) recently completed award presentations to four pubs in Thanet.

The Thanet 2023 CAMRA Pub of the year was judged to be The Royston in Broadstairs, and runner-up was the Magnet also in Broadstairs. Highly commended were the Two Halves in Margate and the Hovelling Boat Inn in Ramsgate.

With some 50 real ale venues to choose from, including pubs, clubs and hotels, the process of judging the winners was undertaken by local members using a check-list of eight different judging categories each containing focused criteria.

Chairperson of the local branch, Martin Knight, said: Pubs can be but dont have to be picture postcard, unspoilt gems to be pub of the year.

Pubs of all sizes and locations such as those located in residential areas, town centre bars, micropubs or back street locals, where everyone is made to feel welcome, can be considered for this award.

Yesterday (May 16), Chris Butler, MD of Thanet Earth, attended the Farm to Fork Summit at No 10 Downing Street hosted by the Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.

The focus of the summit was on how government and industry can work together to support a thriving UK food industry and included attendees from across the whole UK supply chain.

Chris Butler said: I was encouraged by the discussions and in particular the additional support for the glasshouse growing sector, this support goes some way to ensuring that Thanet Earth can play a major part in the future food security of the UK.

Dirtee Feast street bites and gourmet burgers and dogs food venture will open at a new base in Ramsgate on Friday (May 19).

The business had a permanent residency at the Ravensgate Arms until its sudden closure earlier this month.

Boss Dean Adams, who has also taken over the Ramsgate seafront phone boxes for his doughnut and ice cream offerings, has now relocated and will launch at Churchills Tavern on the Paragon with new additions to the menu.

From June onwards Dean will be introducing a new Home Classic menu with a Dirtee Feast twist.

Poppy Fields, an affordable housing development in Ramsgate, has been named Best Construction Project at the South East Construction Awards 2023.

The scheme, which is being built by WW Martin on behalf of Orbit Homes, will deliver 55 new affordable homes in Ramsgate.

The highly awards were held at Sandown Racecourse on 25 April and celebrate the regions most outstanding main contractors who have carried out exemplary projects, demonstrating the highest levels of innovation, quality, sustainability, health and safety, well-being, and training.

Thanet Crane Hire has announced new developments for the business following last years 2m investment programme and relocation to a new depot in Headcorn.
