Social networking website Reddit, Tuesday announced restrictions on posting explicit content at its site.

Reddit said it will take down photos and videos that contain explicit content on its website if it is posted without the permission of the person in the image.

"If a photograph, video, or digital image of you in a state of nudity, sexual excitement, or engaged in any act of sexual conduct, is posted or linked to on reddit without your permission, it is prohibited on reddit," the social network website said.

The revised privacy policy will go into effect on March 10, 2015.

The latest change in content policy comes about six months after hackers leaked nude photos of Jennifer Lawrence and other celebrities and posted it on social sites like Twitter and Reddit. Many people had raised their voices against these social networking sites for not policing their sites.

The site earlier gave freedom to forum moderators to decide on what to post on their forums.

Earlier, Google Inc. (GOOG,GOOGL) announced a major change in its policy over adult material at its blog-publishing service Blogger. The search giant made it clear it would not allow sexually explicit materials on Blogger.

Bloggers would not be able to publicly share images and video that are sexually explicit or show graphic nudity on Blogger starting March 23, 2015.
