CAFE Create is celebrating the 100th anniversary of a seminal socialist text and hosting an exhibition on political satire.

The caf, on Parkgate, will host The Ragged-Trousered Philanthropists: 100 Years On, on May 1 to examine what message the Robert Tressell novel still holds in these times of economic turmoil.

The event starts at 7pm and is a follow-up to last years popular Orwell evening.

An exhibition of visual art celebrating political satire will also open on May 1, at 6pm.

It will feature work by Anthony McGuigan whose political cartooning skills were harnessed by Labour during a campaign in the Richmond Dales.

The exhibition will be at the caf throughout the whole of May.
