Dozens of mothers, daughters attend tea party – Chicago Tribune

Dressed in their finest ruffles and bows, more than 70 mothers and daughters attended the 5th Annual Mother & Daughter Tea Party, hosted Sunday by the Winnetka Park District in the Skokie School cafeteria.

"Anyone can sit down and have tea with their mom," said Toby Ross, the park district's recreation supervisor, "but we're creating the opportunity for moms and daughters to take a few moments away from everyone and everything else and just spend time together."

"My daughter Kiera is 8 years old and the youngest of my six children," said Nora Larkin of Winnetka. "This is an opportunity for the two of us to spend some special time together."

Olivia Joffrey attended the tea with daughters Cosima, 4, and Camilla, 8.

"We are all so busy," Joffrey said. "It's lovely just to have time to be together without any objective of achievement, but just for fun it."

Along with a sit-down tea service, the event included harp music, crafts and mother-daughter portraits. The event was made possible through partnerships with The Grand Food Center, Peet's Coffee & Tea, and Goldfish Swim School of Evanston.

The Tea Party has been a family tradition for the Mahers of Winnetka; mother Tara Maher said this is the fourth year they have attended.

"This year is very special for us because it is the first time that my mother and both my daughters and I have been able to attend all together," she said.
