My Turn: What is the Gaston Tea Party? – Gaston Gazette

By Daniel Ware

Over the last few weeks and months, myself and other Tea Party members have been active in the community and have been the topic of many conversations around the area. One of the biggest questions I always get is what is the Gaston Tea Party? So if I may take a moment and explain.

The Tea Party of Greater Gaston County is a local, non-profit Political Action Committee that believes in fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government and free markets. Our Tea Party is a non-partisan grassroots organization of residentss united by core values derived from the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America.

We recognize and support the strength of grassroots organization powered by activism and civic responsibility at a local level. We hold that the United States is a republic conceived by its architects as a nation whose people are granted unalienable rights by our creator. Chiefly among these are the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The Tea Party of Greater Gaston County stands with our founders, as heirs to the republic, to claim our rights and duties to preserve their legacy and our own. We hold that there exists an inherent benefit to our country whereby natural law and the rights of the individual secures private property and prosperity.

The Gaston TEA Party began in April 2009 by two homeschooling moms and has grown since then to more than 300 active members and 1,200 associate members. The purpose of the Gaston TEA Party is to educate to motivate and to activate those within our community.

Educate

Supply educational information through meetings, forums and electronic means

Keep the public informed and up-to-date on relevant issues and current issues

To inform members of happenings in the political arena, including hidden agendas, pending legislation, voting outcomes and legislative updates

Bring about real change

Motivate

Persuade members to be silent no more and to work together so our voices can be heard loud and clear

Supply facts and figures in order to prompt us to push on to bring about change

Host public meetings and lead in peaceful protests

Activate

Actively take part in the political arena

Attend government meetings, hearings, and sessions

Hold elected officials accountable

Our goals are simple. We look to keep members and residents alert and engaged, build relationships with like-minded people, the community, politicians, and the media to bring about the change that will bring our country back to the way it was originally designed to be governed, and to elect candidates of virtue and integrity that have a heart for the people and a love for our country and community.

As Samuel Adams said, It does not take a majority to prevail but rather an irate, tireless minority keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.

Daniel Ware of Gastonia is vice chairman of the Gaston Tea Party.
