Tea Party Express arrives on the coast

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

The Tea Party Express rolled into Biloxi Thursday pushing the theme fighting for liberty. A crowd turned out at Biloxi's Town Green to hear a conservative message.

"We're trying to get people who have been upset with out of control spending to get involved in elections. This is a platform for candidates," said Tea Party Express Executive Director Taylor Budowich.

Events are being held to rally voters around candidates the Tea Party is backing in contested Senate and House races.

In this case, the express was on hand to support Republican State Senator Chris McDaniel in his uphill fight to unseat long time U.S. Senator Thad Cochran.

McDaniel claims to enjoy support from several fronts.

"It's not just the Tea Party. It's constitutional conservatives from around the state," McDaniel said. "I'm a two term state senator. We have a lot of solid republican support. Our coalition is broad."

The competition in the run up to the GOP primary has been fierce. A genuine rift seems to have developed between Tea Party backed candidates and incumbents who are part of the Republican establishment.

Regardless of the outcome, the national Tea Party Express believes conservatives will band together.

"My only hope is in the end they will come together and support each other and try to make the country better," Conservative Commentator Dunlyn Turnball said.
