Teddy bear tea party proves a big success

A TEDDY bear tea party at St Martins Church in London Road, Worcester, on Sunday (February 1) proved a big success.

The event, which raised about 150 for the St Martins Interior Lighting and Electrics (SMILE) appeal, featured a teddy parachute jump and teddy bear parade with prizes.

Three young members of the church Alexandra Ward, Sarah Upton and Izzy Hodges organised the teddy-themed afternoon and helped put on a range of fun games and refreshments.

David Scott, a member of the parochial church council, said: The teddy bears' owners from toddlers to teenagers and their parents had an enjoyable time playing musical teddies, pinning the nose on the teddy, listening to teddy stories and having a scrumptious teddy tea with marmalade and honey sandwiches, cakes and nibbles.

The climax of the afternoon was teddy parachuting from the musicians' gallery.

All teddies taking part were given a certificate of bravery. Many of them had several jumps and amazingly no teddy suffered any mishaps - a great time was had by all.
