Wedding theme for Hope tea party

Liverpool Hope University hosted a wedding-themed tea party for older people from South Liverpool.

Members of staff transported the guests to Hope Park, where they were met by students for afternoon tea.

Cakes were made by staff and students in their spare time, people were invited to bring their wedding pictures, and the room was decorated in a wedding day theme.

The afternoon also included a 90th birthday celebration for one of the guests.

The regular events are part of the nationwide Contact the Elderly initiative, which is dedicated to tackling loneliness and social isolation among older people.

The afternoon teas are growing increasingly popular and the team is always on the lookout for volunteer drivers, bakers and hosts among staff and students.

The November afternoon tea will include a special visitor a puppy from the Guide Dogs Association.

Graduate Assistant Naomi Fitzgerald-Kelly said: I find it really worthwhile because you can see just how enjoyable it is for the guests the atmosphere is fantastic.

Karen Wilson, from the Liverpool Hopes Resource Management and Planning team, said: I volunteered for Contact the Elderly because I genuinely enjoy afternoon teas, and it is a chance to meet new people staff, students and guests.

Everyone is welcome you dont have to bake, or even commit to attending every month, but simply come along and enjoy good company and conversation.
