Justice Anthony Kennedy praises the ‘tremendous potential’ of … – Washington Examiner

Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy praised Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia open for editing by almost any Internet user, during remarks at the Salzburg Academy of Media and Global Change in Austria this week.

"The cyber age has tremendous potential, as indicated with Wikipedia," Kennedy said. "But if it bypasses space and time where there's just this obsession with the present this neglect of our heritage and history then our world will change."

Kennedy also said, "Journalists have to begin to understand we are in a new world" as a result of the changes wrought by the 'cyber age.' "

Kennedy's comments about the challenges posed by new technology come as Chief Justice John Roberts spoke in New Zealand lamenting the problems new technology poses for the U.S. Supreme Court.

While court watchers are preoccupied with President Trump's travel ban litigation heading to the Supreme Court and rumors of Kennedy's potential retirement, the high court and justices appear focused on the challenges of new technology and modernizing its systems. On Friday, the Supreme Court is overhauling its website so that it will display "an updated look and improved layout, content, and design."
