Lodha committee has already qualified that Ganguly can fight the elections

Sourav Ganguly as BCCI's next president. While many cricket lovers have imagined it in the aftermath of the Supreme Court order of January 3, 2017, Wikipedia has declared it! (DDCA official CK Khanna could be next BCCI chief: report)

The BCCI page of the popular information website shows the former India captain as President of BCCI even before any fresh elections have even been called! Page history shows the change in President's name was made on 19th January. (Sacked BCCI president Anurag Thakur's brother part of HPCA ad hoc panel)

That's not the only error though. Ousted secretary Ajay Shirke continues to be shown in the post while the BCCI headquarters itself have been moved from Mumbai to Kolkata. (Supreme Court questions list of interim BCCI administrators, no names to be revealed now)

The website has clearly jumped the gun. Former president Anurag Thakur and Shirke were asked to vacate their posts by the Supreme Court while all other officials who did not meet the criteria set by Lodha recommendations were also asked to go. (Attorney General of India questions Supreme Court judgement on BCCI regarding Lodha reforms)

This left the cricket body in an unprecedented crisis with most BCCI and state associations office bearers declared barred from taking office. Even the BCCI's own website quickly removed all names of office bearers till further clarity.

Fresh elections need to be held for the positions in the national body which haven't been called yet due to confusion that prevails on many aspects of the verdict. For example, only on January 20, 2017, SC had clarified that 9 years each in BCCI and state bodies are allowed for officials. This ensures many who initially were barred can now resume office at either the BCCI or state level depending on the number of years they have spent in the respective bodies.

Ganguly has been widely touted as the front runner to take over as president of the BCCI. As the current president of the Cricket Association of Bengal, he now has the experience as an administrator. As a former cricketer of great repute, he also has the agreeability factor needed for a consensus candidate to take over.

Lodha committee has already qualified that Ganguly can fight the elections as he will be moving from state to BCCI. But it is still not clear if he will have to vacate his post if elected in July when his 3 years in office come to an end or if he can continue as president as he cools off from the state association.

This example once again illustrates how unreliable Wikipedia information can be as common users have the power to edit pages. Clearly, this one seems to be the handiwork of a mischief creator or perhaps a huge fan of Dada!
