FINAL: Word of God takes down Hicks, Webb to advance to final

FINAL, Word of God 70 Webb 57 : Isaiah Hicks and Mitron Terry combined for 14 final quarter points, but the duo's performance was not enough and the Webb Warriors fell to the Word of God Holy Rams in the Shavlik Randolph winner's bracket.

Starting center Tyrek Coger contributed greatly to the Word of God win. Coger scored 8 points in the last quarter and played punishing defense in the post. He finished with 23 points and 9 rebounds. 8th grader Jordan Whitfield scored 17 points, and future Pitt point guard Joshua Newkirk finished with 12.

As for the Webb Warriors, Isaiah Hicks finished with 24 and Mitron Terry had 21. The performances of the two stars were not enough, and the duo never seemed to fire on all cylinders consistently through the game. Offensively, the team got little support outside of its two leading scorers.

The Shavlik Randolph Bracket final game is now set, and Word of God will play New Hampton High School of New Hampshire for the championship tomorrow night at 9 pm. Webb High School will face High Point Christian tomorrow at 2:20 pm for the prize of 3rd place.

END Q3, Word of God 47 Webb 40 : The Holy Rams jumped out to a quick lead in the third quarter thanks to 9 consecutive points from 8th grader Jordan Whitfield. Whitfield has shown the ability to hit the outside shot and has a good mid-range game as well. Center Tyrek Coger has added solid minutes down low, staying active on the glass. For the Webb Warriors, a large reason they are still in the game would be due to the play of Mitron Terry. After being held to just 3 points in the first half, Terry has scored 11 in the quarter. Isaiah Hicks was held scoreless in the 3rd, and the Warriors have had a hard time getting all their weapons playing well at the same time.

HALF, Word of God 30 Webb 27 : The second quarter of the game offered fans all the excitement they may have missed out on in the first, and the atmosphere has changed drastically here in the gym. The Holy Rams have fought off a furious scoring run by Isaiah Hicks and the Webb Warriors to go into the locker room up by 3.
