APC dismisses Ohanaezes threat, insists on Ihejirikas prosecution

The All Progressives Congress on Monday rebuffed threats by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing to label it as an anti-Igbo political party if it fails to apologise to former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika.

The Ohanaeze youths had on Sunday given the APC 48 hours to make the apology, or be tagged with the anti-Igbo label for calling on the International Criminal Court of Justice to prosecute Ihejirika for allegedly sponsoring the Boko Haram sect, as claimed by Australian negotiator, Mr. Stephen Davies.

The Ohanaeze youths pointed to Ihejirikas exoneration by the Department of State Services to justify its demand for the apology.

But, barely 24 hours after the South-East youth umbrella body issued the threat, the APC has responded, saying it would not apologise to the retired army general.

The APC replied the Ohanaeze youths in a statement signed, and made available to our correspondent, by its South East spokesman, Mr. Osita Okechukwu.

In the statement captioned APC is Pan-Nigeria Not Anti-Igbo, the opposition party said, For the avoidance of doubt, what our National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun called is for President Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR, to invite the International Criminal Court of Justice to investigate and prosecute Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (retd), consequent upon the allegation levelled by the Federal Government negotiator, Rev. Dr Stephen Davis. Nigeria is signatory to ICC and it seems Boko Haram has overwhelmed Mr. President.

APC in league with other Nigerian patriots is of the candid view that unravelling the masterminds, sponsors, allies and sympathizers of the monster called Boko Haram is a sure bet to stamping out the insurgency.

This is what our great party is patriotically demanding, and we sincerely reassure Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing that we mean well.

We have no apology to tender to anybody.

APC in the best tradition of democracy is requesting President Goodluck Jonathan, GCFR, C-in-C, to use his good office to invite ICC to first investigate and secondly to prosecute Senator Sheriff, Gen. Ihejirika or any person found culpable, simple and short.

APC faults Jonathans alleged romance with Boko Harams sponsor

The All Progressives Congress has accused President Goodluck Jonathan of exhibiting a shocking act of indiscretion by hobnobbing with an alleged Boko Haram sponsor, Ali Modu Sheriff, who is not known to have been investigated and cleared of the weighty allegation against him.

In a statement issued in London on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party wondered what message President Jonathan was sending to his compatriots and indeed to the international community when he took Modu Sheriff along during his visit to Chad Monday to confer with President Idriss Deby on cooperation against terrorism.

It said,This action by President Jonathan confirms what the APC has always believed: That the President either knows more than he is willing to admit on the issue of those who are behind the Boko Haram insurgency or he is willing to sacrifice the battle against terrorism on the altar of political expediency. Either way, this action by the President is the height of indiscretion at best, or a palpable exhibition of callowness at worst.

It also confirms our fears that Modu Sheriff was planted as a mole in the APC by his friends in high places, who are jittery about the birth of the party and would do anything to destabilize it.

APC said the President cannot pretend not to be aware of a report sent home by Nigerias Defence Adviser in NDjamena, Chad, in 2011, detailing the suspicious activities of Modu Sheriff in Chad concerning alleged Boko Haram sponsorship and asking the Federal Government to investigate him.

The party said it was shockingthat President Jonathan will choose to take the same personality along with him to the same Chad on a trip to canvas cooperation against Boko Haram terrorists.

If this is a joke, it is one joke taken too far, especially at a time that Nigeria has been loosing territories after territories to Boko Haram; at a time that the same Modu Sheriff has been fingered by another source other than the Nigerian Defence Adviser in Chad, and at a time that calls are being made for an independent investigation into the allegation that Modu Sheriff and former Army Chief Azubuike Ihejirika are Boko Haram sponsors.

Or could it be the case of it takes a thief to catch a thief? it queried.

APC said it was apparent that President Jonathan smuggled Modu Sheriff into his entourage, as the official statement announcing the trip never mentioned that the former Governor of Borno State would accompany the President on the trip, even while the list of those to accompany the President was included in the statement.

It said, Nobody in Nigeria would have known of this unholy alliance carried too far if not that the picture of the President, his host and Modu Sheriff surfaced via Twitter, where incredulous Nigerians were wondering what the President was doing with an alleged Boko Haram sponsor at a time the same terrorist group is waging a titanic battle against Nigeria.

Ohanaeze threatens APC for linking Ihejirika with BHaram

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika | credits: http://www.naijanation.com

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Wing on Sunday threatened to label the All Progressives Congress an anti-Igbo political party if it fails to apologise to a former Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika, within 48 hours.

The threat, which the Ohanaeze Youth Wing issued in a statement jointly signed by its National Secretary, Emmanuel Nnabuike, and Publicity Secretary, Obinna Adibe, followed the APCs call for Iherjikas prosecution over alleged sponsorship of the Boko Haram sect.

The APC demanded Ihejirikas prosecution in the wake of claims made by Australian negotiator, Mr. Stephen Davies.

In the statement titled, Ongoing Attempts To Brand Gen. Ihejirika a Boko Haram Sponsor, the Ohanaeze youths described Davies claims as spurious.

The group expressed regrets that the APC did not bother to ascertain the veracity of the negotiators allegations before calling for Ihejirikas prosecution.

Ohanaeze youths noted that Ihejirika deserved an apology from the APC since the Department of State Security had absolved him of complicity in the sponsorship of the Boko Haram sect

It is on record that the same people trying to frame up Gen. Ihejirika are the same people who claimed they would make Nigeria ungovernable for President Jonathan in the aftermath of the 2011 presidential election.

We view the call for Ihejirikas trial by the All Progressives Congress through its spokesman-Alhaji Lai Mohammed, without bothering to confirm the authenticity of the statement, as malicious and premeditated.

Now that the Department of State Security has officially absolved Ihejirika of any complicity in the matter, we ask the APC to issue an apology to Gen. Ihejirika and Ndigbo within 48 hours.

APCll salvage Nigeria from misrule Odigie-Oyegun

National Chairman, All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has said that the party will salvage Nigeria from its current challenges and provide Nigerians with a true visionary and progressive leadership.

He stated that the party was poised to rescue the country from the precipice of underdevelopment and return it to the path of greatness.

While appealing to Nigerians to support the APC in the forthcoming general elections, he commended a former Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki, for his efforts in nation building.

The APC boss spoke in Ilorin on Saturday during the 50th birthday anniversary of Sarakis wife, Toyin.

While eulogising Toyin for supporting her husband, he said Saraki took a good decision by dumping the Peoples Democratic Party for the APC.

Odige-Oyegun said, Your husband has the singular courage from a commanding position of a party with better federal might to come down to becoming a member of the APC, that is the opposition party with a very good prospect.

And every day he works assiduously to ensure that he will be back in power as part of a new government that will bring change, prosperity and hope to Nigerians in 2015.

He has passion for that vision and together with those of us here who have resolved to rescue this country, because we are the greatest black nation on the face of the earth with potential for greatness.

With the people like Bukola Saraki, the ex-chairman of the new PDP, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje here and another courageous man such as Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the legitimate secretary of the PDP, Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, the PDP is a party that is fast sinking into oblivion.
